The Advocacy and Legal Fund
The coalition is raising $1 million to challenge the city-run grocery store plan in court, to lobby at City Hall, in Albany, and in Washington, and to put the daily reality of small business ownership in front of the public. Individual donors and small and mid-size businesses contributed nearly $100,000 in the first week. Every dollar goes to that work.
-
The lawsuits
Two actions in New York County Supreme Court to stop the city-run grocery stores until the city does the studies the law requires and sits down with the businesses the plan affects.
-
Lobbying and testimony
A coordinated voice at hearings and in the offices of the officials who decide on certification, lending, taxes, wages, and permitting.
-
Public awareness
Telling New Yorkers what bodegas and neighborhood supermarkets are up against: rising rent and taxes, shoplifting, and now subsidized competition across the street.

The GoFundMe campaign is being set up. Until it is live, tell us you want to contribute and a board member will follow up directly.
